L’Incoronata incontra le Donne del Sud
C’è un posto nel quale il tempo sembra essersi fermato. L’Incoronata, come la Vergine Maria, come uno dei nomi femminili più diffusi in Sicilia è un ristorantino, dove l’arte culinaria è semplice e sofisticata nello stesso momento. La cucina rappresenta il luogo magico in cui le donne del sud e non solo hanno regnato per secoli.
Uno spazio intimo che racchiude come uno scrigno i sapori e gli odori del passato, apre le sue porte alla mostra “Le Donne del Sud”.
Donne del Sud e le tele della memoria
Rosa Puglisi firma i suoi quadri, tele di memoria nati dai ricordi dell’infanzia o dai racconti di donne siciliane straordinarie nella loro semplicità. Ogni volto racchiude una storia, ogni storia una verità. Donne che nei primi anni del ‘900 hanno abbracciato il proprio destino o lo hanno combattuto. Donne che hanno preferito la moralità, la religiosità, la mentalità degli altri all’amore proprio. Ma anche donne che con il dolore hanno convissuto, lo hanno sposato come vittime sacrificali. Donne guerriere, donne madri, donne forti.
I lineamenti da delicati si induriscono in un’espressività tonda, gli occhi vuoti e pieni allo stesso tempo svelano un segreto, fino ad urlarlo compostamente. I volti graffiati sono stati lacerati da un sentimento intenso e devastante che ha lasciato nelle protagoniste un segno indelebile.
I colli lunghi e affusolati ricordano Modigliani. Gli sfondi sono elaborate costruzioni di carte da parati, sradicate e dilaniate come il ricordo frammentato che prende vita. Piccoli elementi, gesti, espressività riportano alla luce il passato sino a materializzarlo in una proiezione, una visione che ha il sapore del dejavu.
Le Donne del Sud svelano i loro segreti di vita vissuta sempre con elegante e a volte algida compostezza.

‘L’Incoronata’ meets ‘Donne del Sud’ (Women from the South)
There is a place where time has apparently stood still. ‘L’Incoronata’ (the Crowned Virgin), a clear reference to the Virgin Mary, but also one of the most typical Sicilian female names, is a small restaurant whose cuisine is simple and sophisticated at the same time. The kitchen is the magical place where women in the south, but not only, have reigned for centuries.
An intimate space that keeps, like a jewel box, the flavours and the aromas of the past, and now it opens its doors to the art exhibition “Le Donne del Sud” (Women from the South).
‘Donne del Sud’ and the paintings of the memory
Rosa Puglisi is the artist. Her paintings of the memory stem from childhood recollections or from the tales of Sicilian women extraordinary in their simplicity. Every face hides a story, every story hides a truth. These are women from the early 20th century who either embraced or fought their destiny. Women who chose morality, religion, and other people’s destiny over self-love. But also women who have lived with pain, who married pain like the victims of a sacrifice. Women-warriors, women-mothers, strong women.
Their delicate facial traits become hard in their round expressions; their eyes, empty and full at the same time, reveal a secret, and sometimes they shout it out loud with dignity. The scratched faces were torn apart by an intense and devastating feeling which has left the protagonists with a mark now impossible to remove.
The elongated necks are reminiscent of Modigliani. The backgrounds are made up of complex constructions of wallpapers, uprooted and torn apart as the fragmented memory coming to life. Trivial elements, gestures, expressions bring the past to the light, until it materialises in a projection, a vision with a déjà vu reminiscence.
The Women from the South reveal their secrets learned from experience always with elegant and sometimes icy-cold dignity.
